In September 2025, the Ministry of Coal (MoC) organised the Star Rating Award Ceremony for 2023-24 in Mumbai, Maharashtra, to recognise coal and lignite mines for their excellence in safety, sustainability, and productivity. The event was graced by Union Minister G. Kishan Reddy, Union MoS Satish Chandra Dubey, and Secretary Vikram Dev.

  • (i) A total of 42 mines earned 5-star status, with 4 achieving 1st rank, 3 securing 2nd rank, 6 attaining 3rd rank, and 29 receiving the Achievers Prize.
  • (ii) NLC India Limited (Neyveli Lignite Corporation), a Navratna CPSE, stood out as every one of its operating mines was recognised, underscoring its dominance in sustainable mining and operational efficiency.
  • (iii) The event featured the launch of a revamped Coal Controller’s Organisation (CCO) website, an interactive data dashboard, and two new frameworks — L.I.V.E.S (Learning, Innovation, Vision, Environment, Sustainability) and ARTHA (Atmanirbhar Reclamation and Transformation for Holistic Assets) to advance the sector’s future readiness.
