Rajeev Shukla Named Interim BCCI President After Roger Binny’s Exit.

In August 2025, Rajeev Shukla, Vice-President of the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) since 2020, was appointed as the interim President of BCCI after Roger Binny resigned upon turning 70 years, as per the age-limit rule. Shukla will hold office until fresh elections are conducted in September 2025.

  • (i) Roger Binny, who stepped down due to the 70-year age rule, had been BCCI President since 2022. He succeeded Sourav Ganguly and earlier served as the President of Karnataka State Cricket Association (KSCA). He is also remembered for coaching India’s U-19 team that won the 2000 ICC U-19 Men’s World Cup in Sri Lanka.
  • (ii) The interim appointment comes ahead of the next BCCI elections, expected in September 2025. Until then, the board will function under its existing constitution, as guided by the Supreme Court-appointed Lodha Committee recommendations.
  • (iii) The Government of India passed the National Sports Governance Act (2025), which is expected to take 4–5 months to come into force. This new law will allow office bearers aged 70–75 years to contest under certain conditions, though they must step down after serving either 9 years in total or 6 consecutive terms.
