In October 2025, NPCI International Payments Limited (NIPL), the global arm of the National Payments Corporation of India (NPCI), signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Japan’s Nippon Telegraph and Technology (NTT) DATA to enable Unified Payments Interface (UPI) acceptance at merchant locations in Japan, marking UPI’s debut in East Asia.
