In October 2025, the Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO), in collaboration with the Integrated Defence Staff (IDS) and the Tri-Services — Indian Army (IA), Indian Navy (IN), and Indian Air Force (IAF) — officially released the ‘Indian Radio Software Architecture (IRSA) Standard 1.0’ to enhance interoperability in military communication during a national workshop held at DRDO Bhawan, New Delhi.

  • - The event was graced by Dr. Samir V. Kamat, Secretary of the Department of Defence Research and Development (DDR&D) and Chairman of DRDO, as the Chief Guest. Air Marshal Ashutosh Dixit, Chief of Integrated Defence Staff (CISC), and Dr. Rajat Moona, Director of the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Gandhinagar, Gujarat, attended as Guests of Honour.
  • - The Indian Radio Software Architecture (IRSA) is a comprehensive national software standard for Software Defined Radios (SDRs), defining standardized interfaces, Application Programming Interfaces (APIs), execution environments, and waveform portability mechanisms for seamless integration across defence communication systems.
