On October 7, 2025, Union Minister for Coal and Mines Shri G. Kishan Reddy, along with Chief Minister of Arunachal Pradesh Shri Pema Khandu, inaugurated the Namchik Namphuk Coal Mine in Changlang district. This marks the state’s first commercial coal mining project, opening a new chapter in Arunachal Pradesh’s economic development and positioning it on India’s coal and energy map.

  • - The event began with a Bhumi Pujan ceremony and a tree plantation drive under the “100-tree plantation initiative”, performed jointly by Shri G. Kishan Reddy and Shri Pema Khandu. This was followed by the formal inauguration of the Namchik Namphuk Coal Mine.
  • - The inauguration included the handing over of the mining lease and flagging off tools and machinery of CPPL to the Namchik-Namphuk Central Coal Block, officially marking the commencement of commercial mining operations in Arunachal Pradesh.
  • - Union Minister Shri G. Kishan Reddy highlighted that the coal mine holds reserves of 1.5 crore tonnes of coal. He described the launch as a symbol of new hope, contributing significantly to energy security and regional development in the North East.
