On October 1, 2025, the Pension Fund Regulatory and Development Authority (PFRDA) celebrated NPS Diwas 2025 in New Delhi, Delhi. The event focused on expanding pension coverage and strengthening India’s retirement ecosystem under the theme “Inclusive Pensions, Innovative Solutions: Strengthening Retirement Security in India.”

  • - NPS, launched in 2004, promotes pension planning for all citizens with low-cost, high-return investment options for financial independence and early retirement.
  • - As of August 2025, NPS has 9 crore subscribers and Rs. 15.5 lakh crore AUM, growing at 9% CAGR over 14 years. Initiatives like Multiple Schemes Framework (MSF) and Pension Sakhis have widened inclusion.
  • - Event speakers included Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman, Secretary M. Nagaraju (DFS, MoF), CEA Dr. V. Anantha Nageswaran, and PFRDA Chairperson S. Ramann.

  • (i) Three panels discussed deaccumulation phase, old-age income for agripreneurs and platform workers, and launched MSF, enabling 10 Pension Funds to offer tailored schemes for professionals, women, entrepreneurs, and platform workers.
  • (ii) PFRDA signed an MoU with NABARD to expand rural pension outreach and distributed PRANs to 60,000 Zomato platform workers with HDFC Pension Fund as a pilot.
  • (iii) Released “Sanchayita,” a compendium on pension initiatives. NPS Quest contest winners were awarded for promoting financial awareness. MSME outreach plans target clusters across 12 states.
