In October 2025, a High-Level Committee (HLC) chaired by Union Minister Amit Shah, Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA), approved mitigation, recovery, and reconstruction projects worth Rs 4,645.60 crore for nine states — Assam, Kerala, Madhya Pradesh, Odisha, Rajasthan, Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, Chhattisgarh, and Andhra Pradesh — under the National Disaster Mitigation Fund (NDMF).

  • - The projects aim to enhance disaster preparedness and resilience nationwide by funding critical infrastructure, recovery, and mitigation measures in flood and landslide-prone regions across India.
  • - Assam received approval for a wetland restoration and rejuvenation project worth Rs 692.05 crore to conserve ecosystems and improve flood management capacity.

💡 Other Important Facts:

  • (i) Under the Urban Flood Resilience and Mitigation Programme (UFRMP) Phase-II, the HLC approved Rs 2,444.42 crore to be implemented in 11 major cities, including Bhopal, Bhubaneswar, Guwahati, Jaipur, Kanpur, Patna, Raipur, Trivandrum, Vishakhapatnam, Indore, and Lucknow.
  • (ii) A dedicated flood mitigation project for Guwahati, Assam, worth Rs 200 crore was sanctioned, with the Central Government contributing Rs 180 crore from the NDMF to strengthen urban flood infrastructure.
  • (iii) The HLC also approved financial assistance of Rs 1,270.788 crore for Assam and Rs 260.56 crore for Kerala for recovery and reconstruction activities following the 2022 floods and the 2024 Wayanad landslide disaster.
