Ministry of Ayush Inaugurates India’s First Integrative Oncology Research and Care Centre at AIIA Goa on 10th National Ayurveda Day.

On the occasion of the 10th National Ayurveda Day, the Ministry of Ayush inaugurated India’s first Integrative Oncology Research and Care Centre (IORCC) at the All India Institute of Ayurveda (AIIA), Dhargal, Goa, integrating Ayurveda, Yoga, Panchakarma, and modern oncology for holistic cancer rehabilitation.

🎯 Key Highlights:

  • - The virtual inauguration was led by Shri Pusapati Ashok Gajapathi Raju, Governor of Goa, with the presence of Dr. Pramod Sawant, Chief Minister of Goa; Shri Prataprao Jadhav, Union MoS (IC), Ministry of Ayush; Shri Shripad Yesso Naik, Union MoS, Ministry of Power; and Vaidya Rajesh Kotecha, Secretary, Ministry of Ayush.
  • - The IORCC is India’s first multidisciplinary centre integrating Ayurveda, Yoga, Panchakarma, Diet Therapy, Physiotherapy, and modern oncology under one roof, offering patient-centric rehabilitation for cancer care.
  • - The Centre is established in collaboration with ACTREC (Advanced Centre for Treatment, Research and Education in Cancer) of Tata Memorial Centre to improve recovery, reduce chemotherapy/radiation side effects, and enhance quality of life.

💡 Other Important Facts:

  • (i) The Centre will be chaired by Prof. Dr. Sujata Kadam, Dean, AIIA Goa, with Dr. Sanjay Khedekar as convener, and support from oncologists such as Dr. Shekhar Salkar and faculty from AIIA Goa.
  • (ii) Prof. P.K. Prajapati, Director, AIIA Delhi, stated that IORCC will focus on developing evidence-based integrative protocols, advancing AYUSH-based rehabilitation research, and capacity-building through academic training and innovation.
  • (iii) The initiative aligns with India’s National Health Policy by combining traditional knowledge systems with modern medicine, creating a replicable model of integrative oncology care to strengthen India’s healthcare ecosystem.
