On 22 September 2025, Union Minister Bhupender Yadav, Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change (MoEFCC), presided over the 51st Foundation Day of the Central Pollution Control Board (CPCB) at Parivesh Bhawan, New Delhi, highlighting strengthened infrastructure, technological upgrades, and regulatory reforms for pollution control.

🎯 Key Highlights:

  • - CPCB inaugurated a new headquarters in New Delhi and advanced regional laboratories in Pune and Shillong. The Pune lab can monitor 70 environmental parameters, while the Shillong lab can monitor 62, supporting multi-state environmental assessments.
  • - The upgraded SAMEER 2.0 mobile application, available on Android and Apple iOS, offers improved interface, personalized alerts, and location-based services to enhance citizen engagement in real-time air quality monitoring.

  • (i) CPCB released the 2025 Technical Report on Polluted River Stretches and a manual on identifying water body pollution using freshwater benthic macroinvertebrates in India, providing scientific guidance for pollution monitoring.
  • (ii) To strengthen State Pollution Control Boards and agencies, CPCB integrates social science with technology for behavioral change. Additionally, 13 new professionals were recruited to enhance organizational capabilities.
  • (iii) CPCB highlighted the Jan Vishwas Act, 2023, and Environment Audit Rules, 2025, which simplify compliance by decriminalizing certain provisions and provide a structured framework for environmental audits.
