On 16th September 2025, the world celebrated the 31st International Day for the Preservation of the Ozone Layer, also called World Ozone Day (WOD) or Global Ozone Day, emphasizing global awareness on ozone layer protection and its critical role in combating climate change.

🎯 Key Highlights:

  • - The International Day for the Preservation of the Ozone Layer 2025 is observed under the theme “From Science to Global Action,” highlighting the transition from scientific research to concrete global measures to protect the ozone layer.
  • - The United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) adopted resolution A/RES/49/114 on 19 December 1994, declaring 16th September as the International Day for the Preservation of the Ozone Layer. The first observance took place on 16th September 1995.
  • - The Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change (MoEF&CC) organized the 31st World Ozone Day in New Delhi. Bhupendra Yadav, MoEF&CC Minister, announced that India is among the first countries globally to implement a Cooling Action Plan to reduce ozone-depleting and climate-warming substances.
