World Electric Vehicle (EV) Day is observed annually on 9 September to promote electric mobility and accelerate the shift towards decarbonized transport. The 2025 edition marks the sixth year, focusing on the theme “The Better Manifesto.”

🎯 Key Highlights:

  • - World EV Day was founded in 2020 by Ade Thomas of Green.TV (UK) in partnership with Asea Brown Boveri (ABB), a Switzerland-based global technology company. The first edition was observed on 9 September 2020.
  • - The day unites governments, companies, policymakers, and individuals globally to promote electric mobility, emphasizing EV superiority in driving experience, cost savings, and environmental sustainability.
  • - In 2023, World EV Day achieved over 200 million impressions across 119 countries, with participation from major brands like Ford, Nissan, Tata, ABB, Volvo Trucks, and FedEx.

💡 Other Important Facts:

  • (i) On 10 September 2025, Union Minister Pralhad Joshi inaugurated a state-of-the-art EV Testing Facility at Alipore Regional Laboratory, Kolkata. The facility tests EV batteries and components, enhances National Test House (NTH) capabilities, reduces import dependency, and strengthens India’s global leadership in EV testing.
  • (ii) Madhya Pradesh (MP) formulated a dedicated EV policy to support national manufacturing targets and India’s decarbonization goals. Karnataka was India’s first state to implement an EV policy in 2017.
  • (iii) Tata Power and Tata Passenger Electric Mobility launched India’s largest fast-charging hub, TATA.ev, near Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport, Mumbai. The hub has 8 fast DC chargers (up to 120 kW) with 16 charging bays, powered entirely by renewable energy. Tata Power operates 5,500+ chargers across India, aiming for 10,000 public chargers and 7.5 lakh home chargers by 2030.
