On 8 September 2025, International Literacy Day (ILD) was observed worldwide under the leadership of UNESCO (United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization). The theme was “Promoting Literacy in the Digital Era.”

  • - International Literacy Day was first proposed at the World Congress of Ministers of Education, Tehran (1965) and officially proclaimed by the UNESCO General Conference, Paris (1966).

  • (i) In 2025, UNESCO hosted a global event and conference at its Headquarters in Paris, France, which included high-level panels and the International Literacy Prizes ceremony.
