NGEL Signs MoU with VOC Port to Establish India’s First Green Hydrogen Fuelling Station at Tuticorin, Tamil Nadu.

In September 2025, NTPC Green Energy Limited (NGEL), a subsidiary of NTPC Limited, signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the V.O. Chidambaranar Port Authority (VOCPA) to set up a Green Hydrogen Fuelling Station at Tuticorin in Tamil Nadu. With this project, VOC Port becomes the first Indian port to host such a facility, marking a milestone in India’s clean energy transition.

  • - The MoU was formally signed by Kishore Kumar Hota, Chief General Manager (CGM) of NTPC, and A. Ganesan, Chief Mechanical Engineer (CME) of VOCPA, in the presence of Sarbananda Sonowal, Union Minister for Ports, Shipping and Waterways (MoPSW).
  • - Under this agreement, NGEL will introduce hydrogen-based Internal Combustion Engine (ICE) trucks at the port. These trucks will gradually replace fossil fuel-powered vehicles, contributing to reduced emissions and improved energy security.
