In June 2025, Tata Steel Special Economic Zone Limited (TSSEZL)’s Gopalpur Industrial Park (GIP), located in Ganjam district, Odisha, was inducted into the World Economic Forum (WEF)’s Transitioning Industrial Clusters Initiative, aimed at accelerating green industrialization and decarbonization in India.

  • - This initiative, launched at COP26 in 2021, now includes 33 industrial clusters across 16 countries, collectively capable of reducing greenhouse gas emissions equivalent to Saudi Arabia's annual emissions.
  • - This global program is driven in collaboration with Accenture (New York, USA) and the Electric Power Research Institute (EPRI) (Palo Alto, California, USA) to foster decarbonization, economic growth, and employment generation in industrial zones.
  • - It supports the deployment of clean-energy technologies and focuses on lowering carbon footprints through innovation and infrastructure transformation.

  • (i) The inclusion of GIP aligns with India’s National Green Hydrogen Mission (NGHM), aiming to position India as a global hub for green hydrogen production and export.
  • (ii) GIP is the first industrial park in India to be included in this global climate platform and is expected to boost green investment, promote public-private collaboration, and support low-carbon industrial development.
  • (iii) GIP is operated by TSSEZL, a subsidiary of Tata Steel Limited (TSL), headquartered in Mumbai, Maharashtra.
