In June 2025, the Government of Telangana signed a cooperative agreement with Kitakyushu City, Japan, aimed at enhancing bilateral cooperation in areas such as inclusive economic growth, zero-emission initiatives, and urban innovation.

  • - The agreement was signed during the Telangana Formation Day celebrations held in Hyderabad, in the presence of Telangana Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy and Kitakyushu Mayor Kazuhisa Takeuchi.

  • (i) Drawing inspiration from Kitakyushu's transformation from an industrially polluted area to a model eco-city, Telangana plans to develop an 80-acre eco-town in Hyderabad.
  • (ii) The project will emphasize circular economy practices, waste management, and advanced recycling technologies.
  • (iii) The state will collaborate with Kitakyushu to apply its expertise in riverfront development and environmental conservation as part of the Musi River rejuvenation project, promoting sustainable urban water management.
