China’s Miao Lijie and Japan’s Yuko Oga Appointed Ambassadors for FIBA Women’s Asia Cup 2025.

Chinese basketball legend Miao Lijie and Japanese basketball icon Yuko Oga have been named ambassadors for the FIBA Women’s Asia Cup 2025, the 31st edition of the tournament. The event, organised by the Fédération Internationale de Basketball (FIBA) headquartered in Mies, Switzerland, will be held in Shenzhen, China, from 13th to 20th July 2025.

  • - This will be the first time in 10 years that China hosts the FIBA Women’s Asia Cup, with the previous edition held in 2015.
  • - Miao Lijie is the only Asian player to have won a Women’s National Basketball Association (WNBA) Championship, achieving this milestone with the Sacramento Monarchs in 2005.
  • - She was the first player to score 6,000 points in the Women’s Chinese Basketball Association (WCBA) and led her team to the 2011 WCBA title. Additionally, she secured three consecutive Asian Games gold medals in 2002, 2006, and 2010.

  • (i) In 2024, Miao Lijie was inducted into the FIBA Hall of Fame (HOF), becoming the fourth Chinese basketball player to receive this honour, following Mou Zuoyun, Zheng Haixia, and Yao Ming.
