In May 2025, the Department of Science & Technology (DST), functioning under the Ministry of Science & Technology (MoS&T), launched five Carbon Capture and Utilisation (CCU) testbeds for the cement industry. This marks the first-of-its-kind research and innovation cluster aimed at reducing industrial carbon emissions.

  • - The CCU testbeds have been set up across five states — Haryana, Uttar Pradesh (UP), Maharashtra, Andhra Pradesh (AP), and Goa, with the pilot facility located in Ballabgarh, Haryana.

  • (i) These five CCU testbeds were officially announced by DST during the 27th National Technology Day celebrations, observed on May 11, 2025, at the Dr. Ambedkar International Centre, New Delhi (Delhi).
  • (ii) Dr. Jitendra Singh, Union Minister of State (MoS) (Independent Charge), Ministry of Science & Technology, attended the event as the Chief Guest and handed over the grants to the respective testbed teams.
  • (iii) The newly launched CCU testbeds will operate under a Public-Private Partnership (PPP) model and are intended to promote translational Research & Development (R&D) through collaboration between leading academic institutions and industrial partners.
