In May 2025, the Election Commission of India (ECI) made two significant appointments to strengthen its administrative and media-related functions.

🎯 Key Highlights:

  • - A 1993-batch Indian Administrative Service (IAS) officer from the Punjab cadre, Rakesh Verma assumed charge as the Director General (DG) of the India International Institute of Democracy and Election Management (IIIDEM), New Delhi.
  • - Prior to this role, he served as Additional Secretary in the Department of Water Resources, River Development, and Ganga Rejuvenation under the Ministry of Jal Shakti (MoJS), and held prominent positions in the Ministry of Tourism (MoT).

💡 Other Important Facts:

  • (i) A 1996-batch officer of the Indian Information Service (IIS), Ashish Goyal took charge as Director General (DG), Media, at the ECI. Before this role, he served as the DG of the National Museum under the Ministry of Culture (MoC) and also held additional charge as Director of the Salar Jung Museum, Hyderabad.
  • (ii) IIIDEM is an ECI-affiliated institute that trains election officials and promotes democratic practices globally.
