India, the sixth-largest global contributor to the World Health Organization (WHO), has pledged over $300 million to support the WHO's core programs from 2025 to 2028.

🎯 Key Highlights:

  • - Approximately $250 million will be allocated for establishing the Centre of Excellence (CoE) for Traditional Medicine in Jamnagar, Gujarat.

💡 Other Important Facts:

  • (i) The WHO has received contribution pledges totaling over $2.2 billion to address a funding gap of $7.1 billion for core programs aimed at saving 40 million lives over four years.
  • (ii) In addition to funding the traditional medicine center, $38 million has been allocated for new premises for WHO's regional office, $10 million for digital health, and $4.6 million for thematic funding.
  • (iii) Countries in the WHO's South-East Asia Region have collectively committed over $345 million, with further pledges expected from Indonesia and Bhutan.
